Welcome to IshaPur, the home of pure Turmeric Curcumin

– a natural product with almost magical, yet proven, health properties!

Turmeric curcumin has been used for over 4,000 years in many countries, but especially in India where it is used in cooking many dishes. Indeed, if you have ever eaten a curry you have enjoyed the taste of turmeric curcumin, as it is what gives curry its’ yellow color and flavor. Indians and Asians have known of its’ health benefits for all this time, but it is only in the last 60 or so years that it has become appreciated in Western countries, where clinical trials have been conducted that have proven its’ amazing effects on a wide range of different diseases and conditions.

In particular, turmeric curcumin rapidly reduces inflammation which is now known to be the source of many conditions including arthritis and other joint pains.

IshaPur contains only pure turmeric curcumin combined with an extract of organic black pepper which helps to increase your body’s absorption of it by some 2000%! This is enclosed in a vegetable capsule which is easy to swallow, vegan, gluten-free, and soy-free, so it is a totally natural product. Furthermore, it is approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as GRAS - Generally Recommended As Safe.

Take one capsule twice daily after meals and you will be astounded at how much better you will feel in a very short period of time!

What is Turmeric Curcumin?

Turmeric is the root of a plant called Curcuma Longa and is a member of the ginger family. Along with ginger, it is grown for its root, and has long been used in cooking in Asian countries both for its’ color and flavor, in addition to its medicinal properties.

It is only in the past few decades that it has been recognized by western researchers for its health benefits, and many clinical trials have now been carried out showing that it can help to cure a wide range of conditions including arthritis, diabetes, IBS, pancreatitis, gastric ulcers, uveitis, several types of cancer, plus a whole host more. The trials have revealed that the vital element in turmeric is curcumin and it is this which is responsible for its’ amazing health benefits.

What Is The Difference Between Turmeric And Curcumin?
There is some confusion over the names turmeric and curcumin and they are often used interchangeably.

However, turmeric is the yellow root of the plant in the ginger family – Curcuma Longa. The plant is grown only for its roots, also known as rhizomes, and it is the turmeric which is ground down into a spice and used in cooking.

Curcumin is an element contained within the turmeric, and it is this which has been identified as being responsible for the amazing health benefits incurred when turmeric curcumin is ingested.

Curcumin belongs to a family of chemicals called curcuminoids. It is one of many curcuminoids that are polyphenolic compounds (compounds that have a bright yellow color). The amount of curcumin present in turmeric is quite low. Only about 2% - 3% of curcumin by weight is present in turmeric.

Since the amount of curcumin is so low one would need to eat a considerable amount of the spice for it to have any major health benefits, so at IshaPur we have produced an extract of curcumin that we provide in capsule form and which is 95% pure curcumin.

Furthermore, the rate at which the body is able to absorb pure curcumin is also very low, and on its’ own, most of it would pass straight through, having no effect. However, it has been discovered that an extract of black pepper known as piperine, or bioperine, increases the body’s absorption rate by no less than 2000%! This is why IshaPur Turmeric Curcumin has added bioperine for maximum absorption.

Everything contained in IshaPur Turmeric Curcumin is natural, the curcumin and bioperine being enclosed within an all-vegetable capsule.

Turmeric Curcumin Health Benefits

Clinical studies have shown that many diseases and conditions of the human body do not have just one cause, but many causes combined, or to use the language of researchers, multiple cell signaling pathways. This is very true of cancers and many other diseases.

Over the past few years there have been a number of “smart” drugs developed to attack a range of different diseases, including cardiovascular diseases, metabolic diseases, cancers, and neurological diseases, but they are mono-targeted. If a disease has multiple pathways, as do the diseases mentioned above, then it follows that a mono-targeted drug is likely to be ineffective. Furthermore, “smart” drugs are often very expensive and can produce a variety of adverse side effects.

According to Subash C. Gupta, Sridevi Patchva, and Bharat B. Aggarwal, “Extensive research over the past half century has shown that curcumin (diferuloylmethane), a component of the golden spice turmeric (Curcuma longa),canmodulatemultiplecellsignalingpathways. ”(Source:https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3535097/ Therapeutic Roles of Curcumin: Lessons Learned From Clinical Trials).

In simple language, curcumin attacks a disease on several different levels, rather than only one which may or may not help and may produce unwanted side effects.

The authors then continue to list over 30 diseases and conditions suffered by patients in whom “some promising effects have been observed” with the use of curcumin, including even such things as chronic arsenic exposure and alcohol intoxication, together with several different types of cancer. The very lengthy article then continues to go into great detail about many of the clinical trials which have been carried out.

The First Article On The Use Of Curcumin In Human Disease

Was Published In 1937.

Therapeutic use of curcumin was first recorded as long ago as 1748, but the first article covering the use of curcumin in human disease was published by Oppenheimer in 1937. He treated 67 patients with subacute, recurrent, or chronic cholecystitis with oral administration of curcumin for a period of three weeks. All but one of the patients were completely cured of the disease and showed no symptoms of return, despite observation lasting from three months to over three years. No side effects of any description were noted, even in cases where the medication was continued for several months.

Since that time well over 100 other clinical trials have been undertaken and the results published, except in some cases where trials are still ongoing. In these trials curcumin has either been used on its own or in combination with some other agents such as quercetin, piperine, bioperine, soy isoflavones, gemcitabine, mesalamine, and prednisone.

Subash C. Gupta et al (mentioned above) go on to say: “How a single agent can possess these diverse effects has been an enigma over the years, both for basic scientists and clinicians. However, numerous lines of evidence have indicated curcumin’s ability in human participants to modulate multiple cell signaling molecules such as pro-inflammatory cytokines (tumor necrosis factor [TNF]-α, interleukin [IL]-1β, IL-6), apoptotic proteins…..” (and a list of others which would only be understood by health professionals).

A further trial mentioned took place to evaluate the effects of curcumin on healthy middle aged participants (40 – 60 years old) who were given either curcumin or a placebo for 4 weeks. It was reported that “Overall, (the results) demonstrated the health-promoting effects of lipidated curcumin in healthy middle aged people.”

Another trial in 1987 was probably the first to demonstrate the anti-cancer properties of curcumin. Kuttan and co-workers conducted a clinical trial involving 62 patients with external cancerous lesions. Topical curcumin was applied and found to have “remarkable symptomatic relief as evidenced by reductions in smell, itching, lesion size, and pain.” The effect in many patients continued for several months, with only one patient having an adverse reaction. Since that time, curcumin – either alone or in combination with other agents – has “demonstrated potential” against colorectal cancer, pancreatic cancer, oral cancer, lung cancer, breast cancer, multiple myeloma, prostate cancer, and head and neck squamous cell carcinoma.

Of course, as always, if you suffer from, or believe you may be suffering from any form of cancer you should always consult with your health professional before taking curcumin extract.

This is a condition caused by inflammation of one or more joints. There are over 100 different types of arthritis that have been reported, but the most commonare osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and gout. Very often NSAIDs (Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs) are prescribed for these conditions, but theycan have numerous adverse effects, including stomach ulcers and heart attacks.

A study undertaken involved 50 patients with osteoarthritis who were given the equivalent of 200mg of curcumin per day for three months. The symptoms of osteoarthritis were evaluated using WOMAC scores which are an indicator of pain levels. After three months the overall WOMAC score was reduced by 58% while walking distance (on a treadmill) was increased from 76 meters to 332 meters.

The well-known radio show host Dr Josh Axe waxes lyrical about turmeric curcumin. Discussing it on his website he says that it is arguable that the most powerful aspect of curcumin is its’ ability to control inflammation. He refers to the journal Oncogene which published a study of anti-inflammatory compounds which found that aspirin and ibuprofen are the least effective, while curcumin is among the most effective anti-inflammatory compounds in the world.

Dr Axe continues that “This news should have reached every household in the world after the study was conducted because inflammation puts people at riskfor almost every disease process known to man.”

Dr Axe also refers to a study published in the journal Biofactors which showed that curcumin can even help to promote weight loss. Curcumin was shown to be effective at suppressing the inflammatory processes of obesity, thus helping to reduce it along with its “adverse health effects.”

Perhaps the most telling thing about Dr Axe’s lengthy article is that he concludes “At the end of the day, the research speaks for itself and we cannot think of onereason why EVERYONE shouldn’t be taking some form of turmeric every day.”

If you are suffering from any condition caused by inflammation such as osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, or any other type of joint pain, you will most certainly benefit from taking IshaPur Turmeric Curcumin.

Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a problem of the large intestine. It can cause diarrhoea, bloating, gas, abdominal pain, and constipation. A trial involved 102 patients who were given one tablet a day containing 72mg of standardized curcumin extract and 105 who were given two tablets per day, both for an eight week period. The prevalence of IBS was reduced by 53% in the one tablet group and 60% in the two tablet group, together with an overall marked decrease in IBS symptoms.

Gene Kobilansky has a website called FlowAthletics which is dedicated to helping athletes improve their performance and has produced an interesting article on the benefits of curcumin to athletes (http://flowathletics.com/curcumin-turmeric-athletes/).

Kobilansky states that inflammation in athletes is often mild but can have a negative impact on the training process. He says that being sore after a heavy workout is a form of inflammation and that it has a nasty side effect known as secondary muscle damage. Inflammation, he says, is part of the body’s immune response and at first is beneficial when tissues need care and protection. However, in chronic cases inflammation can cause further inflammation, which can become self-perpetuating.

He goes on to say “For many athletes the issue of inflammation is never resolved, it’s an ongoing struggle. Piling up on top of each other are little injuries, followed by waves of inflammation, which cause more and more damage over time. Acute inflammation is OK, chronic inflammation is a serious problem.”

Can curcumin help athletes recover from slightly damaged muscles? Kobilansky refers to a study which suggests that it can. Mice which were treated with curcumin showed muscle recovery after four days, while untreated mice took 20 days.

Kobilansky also refers to the protein BDNF (Brain Derived Neurotrophic Factor) which is a protein found in the brain which protects neurons, helps with new neuron growth, and creates new synapses. Athletes under stress from competition suffer from a reduction in levels of BDNF which affects mental alertness and overall health. Curcumin has been proven to block the stress-induced reduction in BDNF and also can increase the levels of BDNF.

The article then goes on to suggest ways of taking turmeric curcumin including its use in food recipes and drinks, but “I keep coming back to the fact that by weight turmeric is only about 3% curcumin. Furthermore, curcumin is poorly absorbed when taken orally. So, it would be really difficult to get the minimum effective dose from diet alone. The alternative is a curcumin supplementation.”

Kobilansky concludes that “Curcumin is considered very safe, and when I compare the known side effects to those of aspirin or ibuprofen I feel comfortable recommending it.” He goes on to say that, in Phase 1 clinical studies, curcumin with doses up to 3600-8000 mg daily for 4 months did not result in discernible toxicities except mild nausea and diarrhea.” It should be noted that those doses are considerably in excess of the 1200 mg contained in the recommended daily dose of IshaPur Turmeric Curcumin which is all that is required to obtain the maximum benefit.

The effect of curcumin on diabetes was first noted in 1972. Diabetes is a disease which results in high blood sugar levels. In the case of type 1 diabetes it is a result of the body’s inability to produce insulin, while in the case of type 2 diabetes it is the result of the body failing to use insulin properly.

In 1972 a male patient who had suffered diabetes for 16 years took 5g of turmeric powder a day over a period together with insulin, after which his blood sugar levels halved from 140 mg/dl to 70 mg/dl. When the insulin was reduced to the minimum the effect of the turmeric nonetheless continued. However, he then stopped taking the turmeric powder for a week and his blood sugar level rose to 140 mg/dl immediately. He then resumed the turmeric and the blood sugar level was promptly reduced to 110 mg/dl. The patient’s electrocardiogram was normal, and he had the beneficial effect of a stimulated appetite. There were no noted adverse side effects.

A more recent study involved 240 patients who were randomly assigned 1.5g/ day of curcumin or a placebo. After 9 months, 16.4% of the placebo group had developed type 2 diabetes, whereas it appeared in none of the curcumin group.

Other Conditions

Groundwater arsenic contamination is a big problem in Bangladesh and West Bengal. Unfortunately, arsenic has damaging effects on DNA. A trial was conducted in West Bengal involving 286 volunteers who were divided into two groups of 143. One group was given a placebo, while the other was given 500mg of curcumin combined with piperine (to assist absorption) every day for three months. The curcumin group was found to have reduced DNA damage combined with increased levels of anti-oxidants - which are good. The authors of the study concluded that curcumin may have a protective role in reducing DNA damage caused by arsenic contamination.

Other trials have been conducted on patients with chronic bacterial prostatitis (CBP). In one, 143 patients were divided into two groups of 106 and 37. The larger group received treatment with antibiotics together with curcumin, whereas the smaller group received antibiotics only. One month after treatment 89.6% of the larger group reported no symptoms associated with CBP whereas just 27% of the patients who received antibiotics only had no recurrent symptoms.

Subash C. Gupta et al report that “As discussed in this review, curcumin has shown therapeutic potential against a number of human diseases. Common to all of these studies have been the safety, tolerability, and non-toxicity of this polyphenol, even at doses up to 8 g per day. The underlying mechanism for curcumin’s clinical efficacy seems to be modulation of numerous signaling molecules.”

Turmeric Curcumin Side Effects

When used as a natural spice for food flavoring there have rarely been any side effects of turmeric curcumin reported. However, if taken in very large doses over a very long period then turmeric curcumin may possibly result in nausea, indigestion, gas, or stomach ache.

Those effects aside, there are no reports of any other side effects. In any event, if you take IshaPur Turmeric Curcumin in the daily doses recommended, side effects simply should not occur.

If you are pregnant, have gall bladder disease, or are taking any medication as a blood thinner, then you should consult a medical professional before taking a pure curcumin extract.

Some other conditions may also need a consultation with your doctor before taking turmeric curcumin. These include kidney stones, because urinary oxalate levels are increased. In addition, if you suffer from GERD, turmeric curcumin can increase stomach acids which might possibly lead to ulcers without proper management.

Also, if you are about to undergo any form of surgery, you should stop taking turmeric curcumin two weeks beforehand.

As a general rule, all of the aforementioned side effects result only if there are existing health conditions. However, if you should suffer from any unexplained side effects, you should stop taking turmeric curcumin and seek medical advice before continuing.

I'm a very active 40 year old male, and love Ashtanga yoga. I began using IshaPur Turmeric with curcumin at the suggestion of my yoga teacher after an interior meniscus injury. During many of the postures any pressure on my knee at all would hurt. During the injury I remember feeling like I would never again be able to do yoga in the way that I wanted to. I started taking the IshaPur and within a couple weeks the inflammation and pain had subsided, and I noticed my knee less and less. Today it is quite rare that I am aware of my knee injury at all, and my practice is stronger than ever. I strongly recommend to anyone experiencing joint pain to use this supplement. It has allowed me to do what I never thought I would be able to again.

I began taking the IshaPur Turmeric Curcumin supplements at a time that my body was injured. I had hurt myself pushing too hard in a yoga class. I am not the type to take any pain killers or barely any advil but I gave in to the advil. It was suggested I try this supplement to help remove the inflammation and heal. And I did. I was able to stop the advil but continued with the turmeric to help the healing process. I began to notice subtle differences at first. Some were even unexpected and unrelated. Like a sun spot on my face began to clear up. WOW. Totally relieved and happy about that. I did not realize that the Turmeric could help with this. Another thing I began to notice was a shift in my appetite. I found I was able to realize when I was full and started cutting back on the amount of food I was eating. I noticed my stomach wasn’t as bloated and my digestion was much better. I’ve also started using it for my gums. I had periodontal surgery and this helped me to heal at a better rate. I’ve been using it in my toothpaste (opening the cap and adding it to coconut oil) to soothe the gum tissue and to whiten my teeth. I highly recommend this product. It’s easy to take and you will notice a difference in your health and wellness.

My gastroenterologist suggested that I get on a regime of Curcumin for general wellness and to keep inflammation at bay. I was told that pepper was key to absorption. Serendipitously, I learned that IshaPur Curcumin had just gone on the market an met all the criteria my doctor mentioned. I ordered it and began taking it twice daily. After a few months, I realized that my joint stiffness was gone. I also had a general feeling of wellbeing. It is now part of my daily diet.

I am a 72 year old male. I have been an active athlete as a young man and my entire adult life and a student of good health practices. Over the last ten years I have become increasingly arthritic and had to have major joint replacements due to over training and genetics. In the last few years I have also battled cancer. Needless to say, it has been a painful experience with serious systems dysfunctions which left me in pretty bad shape. I researched curcumin and chose IshaPur. It has helped reduce my inflammation and pain. It has strengthened my immune system and rebalanced my digestive process. I am presently cancer free. Integrity is important to me, so I can say with gratitude that IshaPur has truly been of daily aid in cleansing, regenerating and healing my body.
